This resource is a 7 week unit plan, two mid-unit assessments and a final writing assessment. Students develop a critical understanding of a contemporary novel -Chinese Cinderella. They will analyse how complex characters develop over the course of a text, and how an author’s choices concerning how to structure a text, order events within it (e.g., parallel plots), and manipulate time (e.g., pacing, flashbacks) create such effects as mystery, tension, or surprise. Finally they will analyse a particular point of view or cultural experience reflected in the text and learn to understand the use of intertextuality
